Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alaattin Kirazcı who is a lecturer at the Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts (Istanbul) works also as a beekeeper within the university campus in the city centre of Istanbul.
Alaattin Kirazcı has been working at Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture since 2004. Kirazcı, who has been closely interested in ecological art since 2009, also works as a beekeeper within the university campus.
Kirazcı, who started beekeeping two years ago, received training on this subject in a course organized by İSMEK (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Lifelong Learning Center). Having learned how to open the hive and how to treat bees in the course, Kirazcı said that he was enthusiastic about beekeeping before, but he did not want to start beekeeping without training. Kirazcı describes himself as “the secret beekeeper of the city”.
